Deepfake scandal in Amsterdam: man who opened 46 bank accounts arrested

In the capital of the Netherlands, Amsterdam, a person who carried out a large-scale fraud scheme using artificial intelligence has been detained. According to local police, a 34-year-old man managed to deceive banking systems by using deepfake technology.

During the investigation, it was revealed that the suspect exploited the trust of people searching for rental housing and obtained copies of their passports. He then used artificial intelligence to adapt the victims’ facial features to his own appearance and easily passed banks’ selfie and biometric verification systems.

Using this method, he managed to open a total of 46 bank accounts. The suspect has now been arrested, a criminal case has been initiated against him, and law enforcement agencies are conducting extensive investigative activities.

Experts consider this case a serious warning in the field of digital security. Technology is developing rapidly, and fraudulent methods are becoming increasingly “smart” as well.
