Oreshnik rumors have fueled social panic in Kyiv for two days

Over the past two days in Ukraine, social media and some news outlets have seen a surge of talk that Russia may carry out a new “Oreshnik” strike on Kyiv. The rumors mention various sites as potential targets, but this information has not been officially confirmed so far.
Against this backdrop, many users in Ukraine stress that air-raid warning signals should be taken even more seriously and that guidance from official channels should be followed. It is especially noticeable that speculation around “where the strike could hit” is affecting people’s mood.
Notably, the discussions around “Oreshnik” are not appearing out of nowhere. Reuters reports that there have been claims Russia used this type of missile against Ukraine, and experts have said its stockpile may be limited, making repeated use less likely each time.
According to open sources, “Oreshnik” is described as a Russian medium-range ballistic missile system, and information about it was first widely discussed in late 2024.
In the current situation, the best approach is not to treat posts like “the strike is imminent” as established fact. Rumors spread fast, but their impact can be pressure on emotions, anxiety, and wrong decisions. In short: if there is an alert, take precautions; but not every so-called “insider” claim is true.
