Queen Maxima of the Netherlands plans to complete a short-term military training course and serve part-time in the army. This was announced by representatives of the royal family.
The queen, who is currently 54 years old, still has time to apply, because the Ministry of Defense sets the maximum age for such service at 55 years.
According to a statement from the royal family, Maxima wants to contribute to ensuring the country's security. It is not yet known which military branch she will serve in.
According to the NLTimes, part-time service is a reserve military service, which is mainly called up in emergency situations. Maxima is not the first member of the royal family to join the army.
Recently, the heir to the throne, Princess Amalia, also completed military training and received the rank of corporal.
The Ministry of Defense is currently working on increasing the number of soldiers. According to the plan, this figure is expected to reach 100,000 by 2030, and 200,000 in the future.
