It has been clarified who will temporarily govern Iran

After the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, it was announced how the country will be governed during the transitional period. This was reported by Iran’s “Tasnim” news agency and several international media outlets.
It is reported that during the transitional period, powers will be exercised through a temporary council of three persons: Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian, Head of the Judiciary Gholam Hossein Mohseni-Ejei, and one member of the Guardian Council. It is stated that this procedure is stipulated in Article 111 of the Constitution of Iran.
It is also mentioned that following Khamenei’s death, a 40-day nationwide mourning period and 7 days of public holidays were declared.
Regional tensions and air traffic restrictions
Amid the strikes and reciprocal attacks around February 28, serious restrictions in air traffic were reported across the region, and in some countries the airspace was temporarily closed.
What happens next?
According to Reuters analyses, the main question now is the process of selecting a new leader and the extent to which the system’s stability will be maintained. In particular, the functioning of internal institutions and the security system is noted as a decisive factor.
