John Bolton admits intelligence error on Iran (video)

Former US National Security Advisor John Bolton has publicly addressed a recent military strike in Iran that resulted in damage to a school and surrounding civilian areas. In an interview with the Dozhd television channel, Bolton attributed the tragic incident to outdated intelligence and internal operational errors. He acknowledged that there is no justification for such mistakes, asserting that the United States bears responsibility for the damage caused and should provide compensation to those affected.
"This is our mistake, there is no justification for it. The US must compensate for the damage. There are mistakes in war, but we always strive to act according to the rules," Bolton said in an interview with the television channel "Dogd."
Bolton emphasized that while errors are an unfortunate reality of warfare, the United States remains committed to adhering to international rules of engagement. However, he expressed skepticism regarding the current US strategy toward Tehran, noting that relying solely on the threat of force has proven ineffective. According to the politician, Washington needs a fundamental shift in its approach, potentially aiming for a change in the regime or its political course.
Despite the criticism of recent tactical failures, Bolton maintained that the United States retains the right to self-defense under the United Nations Charter. He argued that any future military decisions must remain consistent with international law to ensure legitimacy while addressing the ongoing tensions between the two nations.
