The temporary ceasefire established on the occasion of the Easter holiday, unfortunately, did not last long. The hopes gathered on the front line were once again left in the shadow of explosions and mutual accusations. Zamin.uz presents the details of the events of the holiday day when the fire of war did not subside.
Unstopped sounds of gunfire: statement from the Ukrainian side
According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, on Sunday, April 12, the Russian army did not comply with the announced ceasefire rules. According to the information, a total of 55 attacks were carried out on Ukrainian territory during the day. In particular, the border areas of the Sumy region and positions of the Armed Forces came under heavy strikes.
One of the tragic incidents occurred in the village of Zolochiv in the Kharkiv region: as a result of a drone attack, a fire broke out in a grocery store, and two civilians were injured. It is also reported that in the Sumy region, an ambulance was attacked at night and three medics suffered injuries.
Russia’s counter-claims: drones and shelling
The Russian side is also accusing Kyiv of violating the ceasefire regime. According to the governor of the Belgorod region, Vyacheslav Gladkov, a Ukrainian drone struck a car, as a result of which the driver suffered a chest injury and was hospitalized.
At the same time, the administration of the Kherson region appointed by the Russian side reported that during the night administrative buildings and residential houses were shelled, but there were no casualties.
Paper peace: positions of Putin and Zelensky
It should be noted that this ceasefire initiative was proposed on April 9 by Russian President Vladimir Putin. According to it, military actions were supposed to be completely stopped during the Easter holiday days. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, in turn, reminded that Kyiv had previously made similar proposals and expressed readiness to cease fire in response.
However, already in the first hours after the agreement came into force, both sides began accusing each other of betrayal. This once again proved how fragile such “moments of peace” are during armed conflicts.
Dear readers, do you think such short-term ceasefires have any positive effect on the course of war? Or is it just a political maneuver?
