An incident at Bandaranaike International Airport in Colombo, the capital of Sri Lanka, has shocked the entire public. The unusual situation involving Buddhist monks has caused a major sensation.
According to official information, 22 monks were detained at the airport. Upon inspection of their luggage, more than 110 kilograms of high-potency "Kush" variety cannabis were discovered. Subsequently, a 23rd monk, who organized the trip, was also apprehended on the outskirts of the capital.
The Customs Service reported that the group members were primarily students, and each had skillfully concealed approximately 5 kilograms of narcotics inside their suitcases. Their trip to Thailand was fully funded by an unknown sponsor.
According to investigation data, the group members accepted these goods as simple "charity or donations." The 23rd monk, who did not participate in the trip, had assured them that transportation would arrive to collect the shipments upon their return.
Currently, all suspects have been handed over to law enforcement agencies, and a large-scale investigation into the case is underway. The value of the confiscated drugs is estimated at millions of dollars.
This incident has sparked significant resonance, especially considering that monks hold high respect in Buddhist society. For many, this situation has once again brought the issue of trust and values to the forefront.
In short, this event is not just an ordinary crime, but a serious signal for the entire society.
