The situation at the Port of Haifa, one of the largest maritime gateways in the Middle East, has stirred a real "storm" on the international political stage. The dispute surrounding grain products alleged to belong to Ukraine has evolved from a simple economic disagreement into a major geopolitical confrontation. Zamin.uz analyzed the latest details of this complex situation.
At the Center of the Conflict: The Mysterious Cargo at Haifa Port
The arrival of another grain-laden vessel at Israel's Port of Haifa has triggered sharp objections from Kyiv. The Ukrainian side claims that these products were illegally exported by Russia from occupied territories. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrey Sibiga called this situation a serious factor casting a shadow over the friendly relations between the two countries.
President Vladimir Zelenskiy also expressed his reaction, reminding that trading in stolen goods is a crime under international law. Kyiv is currently compiling a list of new sanctions against companies and individuals involved in these operations.
The "Shadow Fleet" and Hidden Schemes
According to Ukrainian intelligence, Russia is using specific "detours" to bring harvests grown in occupied lands to the foreign market. In particular:
"Ship-to-ship" scheme: To hide the true source of the cargo, grain is transferred from one ship to another in the open sea.
Export volume: According to Kyiv's estimates, more than 2 million tons of products may have been exported through such hidden routes in 2025 alone.
Strict Warning from the European Union
Brussels has not remained silent on this matter either. The European Union is threatening to impose restrictions on companies from third countries that assist in bypassing sanctions placed on Russia. EU representative Anuar El-Anuni condemned the "shadow fleet" operations and confirmed that relevant inquiries have been sent to the Israeli government.
Israel's Response: Diplomacy or Mass Media?
The Israeli side maintains a cautious position regarding the accusations. Foreign Minister Gideon Saar stated that the ship did not enter the port and that the documentation was insufficient, making it impossible to verify the allegations. At the same time, he accused Ukraine of creating a sensation through the media rather than addressing the issue through diplomatic channels.
Accusations of "Ingratitude": Israel's Aid to Ukraine
There are also sharp reactions within Israeli political circles regarding Ukraine's threats. One former official, Voldiger, noted that at the beginning of the war, Israel assisted Ukrainians with:
Early warning systems;
Military equipment (helmets and ammunition);
Medical infrastructure and hospitals.
Now, Ukraine's threats of sanctions are being perceived in Israel as "ingratitude."
Dear readers, in your opinion, how much do such disputes in international trade damage the strategic partnership between the two countries? Who holds the truth in the "stolen grain" issue?
