A historic mosque in Kashkadarya has been restored with US assistance!
The famous and historically significant Langar Ota Mosque in the Shahrisabz district of the Kashkadarya region has begun to receive visitors in a new form. This sacred place was built in the 15th century and was in need of renovation for many years. Now it has been restored to its original appearance and is open to tourists and pilgrims again.

The restoration of the mosque began in the fall of 2023 and was carried out with the help of $ 250,000 provided by the US Ambassador's Special Fund for the Preservation of Cultural Heritage. The project was carried out in collaboration with scientists from the University of Chicago in the USA and local specialists.

During the restoration process, the unique tiles on the main facade of the mosque were carefully restored, the foundation and the general structure of the building were strengthened, and the roof was completely renewed. In addition, young local specialists were trained in the implementation of conservation work, and in the future they will be able to apply their knowledge and skills in the restoration of other historical sites.

The reopening ceremony of the mosque, which took place on June 4, was attended by U.S. Ambassador to Uzbekistan Jonathan Henick and representatives of the Kashkadarya regional government. In his speech, the ambassador noted that as a result of cultural cooperation between the United States and Uzbekistan, this unique historical monument will remain in the memory of generations for many years to come.

“The United States is proud to have helped preserve this sacred and historically significant site. This project is a vivid example of cultural cooperation between the two countries. "Now, the site is open to all visitors and they can enjoy the historic atmosphere," said Ambassador Jonathan Henick.

The Langar Ata Mosque is highly regarded not only as a religious place of worship, but also as a rich historical architectural monument. Its unique hand-carved wooden pillars and dazzling tiles are among its unique features.

This renovated and further strengthened place will undoubtedly become one of the most popular tourist destinations in Kashkadarya for our country and foreign tourists.
