The Indian government set a historic goal in the automotive industry. The country intends to take first place among the world's car-producing countries in the next five years. This was announced by the country's Minister of Automobile Transport and Roads, Nitin Gadkari.
According to him, it is natural that there will be many difficulties on this path, but the goal can be achieved. "We have set ourselves a big goal - to bring the Indian automotive industry to the ranking of number one in the world. "This is not easy, but it can be done," the minister said.
As Gadkari noted, the country has sufficient potential to implement this. India has the potential to produce affordable and high-quality cars. This situation further increases the attractiveness for international investors.
According to the data, the volume of the Indian automotive industry in 2014 was 14 trillion rupees, and today it has reached 22 trillion rupees. This development shows how rapidly the sector has grown over the past decade.
At the same time, the country spends approximately 22 trillion rupees annually on fossil fuel imports. This not only burdens the economy but also leads to environmental pollution. Therefore, the Indian government began to pay great attention to the production of electric cars, buses, and trucks.
According to the minister, the price of lithium-ion batteries is increasingly decreasing. Over time, there will be no significant difference in the price of gasoline, diesel, and electric vehicles. This will serve to further expand the market for environmentally friendly vehicles.
