On August 22, 2025, an incident at the “Dostuk” border checkpoint in Kyrgyzstan drew attention. A truck from Uzbekistan carrying 21 tons of melons stacked on straw was stopped en route to Osh.
During an inspection by officials from Kyrgyzstan’s Ministry of Agriculture (Osh regional department), it was found that the shipment violated transportation regulations and posed a high phytosanitary risk.
As a result, the entire 21-ton shipment was returned to Uzbekistan. The situation underscores the importance of adhering to phytosanitary and legal standards in cross-border agricultural trade.
