In 2024, about 461.5 thousand Uzbeks performed Umrah. Thus, Uzbekistan ranked 10th in the world in terms of the number of pilgrims traveling to Saudi Arabia. This was reported by the Embassy of Saudi Arabia in Tashkent.
Although this indicator decreased by 10 percent compared to 2023, Uzbekistan took first place in Central Asia in terms of the number of Umrah pilgrims. According to the analysis, the number of Umrah pilgrims from Uzbekistan makes up 1.4 percent of the total number of Muslims living in the country.
“The above figures reflect the deep connection of the Uzbek people with the Two Holy Mosques. This, in turn, demonstrates the efforts of the Kingdom's government to create a comprehensive system of services and facilities to ensure the continuity and completeness of Umrah," the embassy said in a statement.
It was noted that the Kingdom and the governments of Uzbekistan, based on their obligations, consider the designation of companies as a priority issue in terms of providing "Guests of Mercy", that is, high-level services to pilgrims.
The Ministry of Hajj and Umrah of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia carries out its work in coordination with the authorized parties in Uzbekistan. In this regard, strict control is exercised to ensure that Umrah companies provide pilgrims with decent services, such as accommodation and transportation.
To facilitate the Umrah journey, the Kingdom has put forward a number of digitalization initiatives within the framework of technological development. The most important of these is the Nusuk platform, which allows Umrah pilgrims to easily organize their trips in advance. This process includes everything from obtaining visas to booking transportation and accommodation, and even scheduling prayer times. This ensures that prayers are performed smoothly and easily.
In addition, the Haramain Express Train has made it possible to quickly travel between Mecca and Medina, perform Umrah in safety and comfort, and visit the Prophet's Mosques.
Due to the increasing demand for Hajj and Umrah, major projects have been implemented to expand the areas of the Two Holy Mosques. In this context, the areas where Tawaf and Sa'i are performed have been improved. Supporting services such as infrastructure, hospitals, and health centers have been developed.
Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030 strategy also pays special attention to improving the conditions in the Two Holy Mosques. In particular, environmentally friendly water and renewable energy systems, a system for managing the gathering of large groups of pilgrims based on artificial intelligence technologies, and a system for providing instructions in several languages (including Uzbek) have been launched.
