In Navoi, a man who killed his ex-wife and father-in-law was sentenced to life imprisonment

A court verdict has been issued in connection with the horrific and brutal criminal case that took place in the Tamdyn district of the Navoi region. The court sentenced 41-year-old local resident Salim Rustamov to life imprisonment for the intentional murder of three close relatives.

According to reports, Rustamov killed his ex-husband Gulmira Ergashova and her parents with a HOVO truck. The tragedy was caused by a property dispute surrounding a country house belonging to his former father-in-law.

According to court materials, Rustamov was married to Gulmira in 2008, but in 2021 their marriage was officially annulled. Later, a court decision was made to evict him from his country house. In March 2025, during the enforcement proceedings, in the presence of MIB officers, he drove a truck near the courtyard and deliberately attacked his ex-wife and her parents.

According to witnesses, Rustamov planned the action in advance, initially hitting with a car, and then also stabbing with a knife. As a result of severe injuries, the injured died at the scene.

The Tamdyn District Court found him guilty under Article 97 (premeditated murder) and Article 219 (resistance to a person performing a civil duty) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan. According to the court verdict, Salim Rustamov will serve a life sentence in a special regime colony.

The appellate court upheld the verdict without amending the decision of the first instance.

Experts assess this case as "one of the deep social vices of family conflicts" and emphasize the need to form an uncompromising attitude in the public towards cases of violence.
