17.5 tons of "precious sand" discovered in Tashkent region

Large-scale оперативе measures were carried out in the Tashkent region to combat the illegal circulation of precious metals. The operation was organized jointly by the regional department of the State Security Service and the regional Main Department of Internal Affairs. The main objective was to stabilize the criminogenic situation and to suppress the activities of criminal groups involved in the illegal trade of precious metals.

According to reports, as part of оперативе search measures conducted in the Ohangaron district and the cities of Angren and Almalyk, the residences of nine citizens were inspected. As a result, a total of 17.5 tons of sand and stones suspected of containing precious metals were discovered and officially seized, along with various equipment used for their processing.

During the inspections, 135 grams of gold, 25 grams of the narcotic substance “marijuana”, one hunting weapon, and 42 rounds of ammunition were also confiscated. All material evidence has been sent for relevant expert examinations.

At present, pre-investigation checks are ongoing in connection with the incident. Upon completion, an appropriate legal assessment will be provided in accordance with the law.
