A criminal case has been initiated in connection with the fire that occurred on January 31 at the Aviator shopping center in the Yashnabad district of Tashkent, the press secretary of the Prosecutor General's Office Khayot Shamsutdinov told Gazeta.uz.
The criminal case was opened on the basis of Article 19211 (Abuse of power by an official in a non-governmental organization) and Article 259 (Violation of fire safety rules) of the Criminal Code.
The fire occurred on the second floor of the shopping complex, in the area where a children's playground called Pixel and several food outlets are located. The Korzinka supermarket on the first floor of the complex was not damaged.
Unfortunately, after the fire was extinguished, the body of a 2-year-old and 7-month-old child was found at the scene. During the investigation, it was established that the alarm system and sprayers were not working at the time of the fire, and the stair door intended for evacuation was locked.
