Tax official arrested in Fergana for demanding a $101,000 bribe

A chief inspector of the Fergana district tax office was arrested by law enforcement agencies while attempting to enrich himself illegally. According to the State Security Service, the official intended to secure 10 hectares of agricultural land from the district administration's reserve for an entrepreneur through his acquaintances.
It turned out that the tax official demanded a total of $101,000 from the entrepreneur in exchange for allocating this land for the construction of a tourist site and changing its category. During an operational event conducted jointly by the SSS and the Namangan regional departments of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the suspect was caught red-handed while receiving $20,000.
Currently, a criminal case has been initiated by the Namangan regional prosecutor's office regarding this incident under the relevant articles of the Criminal Code. A preventive measure in the form of detention has been applied to the tax inspector. The investigation is ongoing.
