Unpleasant incidents involving abuse of office and fraud were identified in two regions of our country. In the Samarkand region, a cadastre engineer demanded $2,500 in exchange for preparing documents for a 2-sotakh plot of land. He was caught red-handed by law enforcement officers while receiving the funds.
A similar case was recorded in the Surkhandarya region. A former tax inspector demanded 10 million soums to resolve an issue in favor of a farm. He was also arrested while taking the bribe and will be held accountable before the law.
Criminal cases were initiated regarding these two incidents under Article 168 of the Criminal Code. Currently, investigations are underway, and a preventive measure in the form of detention has been applied to the suspects. Experts note that attempts to expedite documents through bribery are costly to society and such acts must be strictly punished.
