Uzbek fighters captured in raid in Syria

It has been reported that a group of Uzbek fighters was captured during a special operation conducted by security forces in northwestern Syria. This was reported by the Reuters news agency.
According to preliminary information, the situation escalated following an attempt to arrest an armed individual in the Idlib region. Subsequently, some Uzbek fighters organized protests demanding his release. This situation soon led to clashes in front of the security agency building.
Raids were carried out in several areas of Idlib province, including the settlements of Kafriya and al-Fu'ah, targeting individuals who participated in the protests. It is reported that shootings were observed in some places and additional forces and equipment were deployed to the area.
The exact number of captured Uzbeks is currently unknown. According to various sources, as of 2025, there were about 1,500 Uzbek fighters in Syria, some of whom lived with their families.
Experts assess this incident as the latest sharp clash between government forces and foreign fighters in recent months. A similar conflict had previously occurred near the Turkish border.
Currently, the Syrian government is taking measures to regulate the status of foreign fighters and integrate them into official structures.
