Uzbekistan's national boxing team has solidified its position on the global stage, surpassing Kazakhstan in the number of athletes who have won two stages of the World Cup organized by the World Boxing Organization, reported UPL.uz citing the Uzbekistan Boxing Federation’s official Telegram channel.
After three stages of the tournament, six boxers became two-time winners, half of whom — Javokhir Ummataliev, Fazliddin Erkinboev, and Jahongir Zokirov — represent Uzbekistan. The others include Yuri Reis and Luis Oliveira from Brazil and Pihla Kaivo-Oja from Finland.
Interestingly, the Uzbek men’s national team chose not to participate in the final stage held in Astana, sending only the women’s team. Nevertheless, Uzbekistan maintained its overall lead in the medal standings, showcasing the consistency and strength of its boxing school.
The Uzbekistan Boxing Federation continues to focus on developing young talent and improving training systems. The nation's success in international tournaments like the World Cup demonstrates the effectiveness of this approach. Yet, competition with countries like Kazakhstan remains intense, pushing Uzbek boxers to constantly elevate their skills.
Boxing remains a state-supported priority sport in Uzbekistan. Regional authorities are actively investing in sports infrastructure, creating conditions for training new champions. Uzbekistan is also among the few countries whose athletes have won Olympic gold in both Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024. Read 'Zamin' on Telegram!
