Shurtan’s coach admitted: gaps in attack still not fully closed

As part of Super League round 16, Shurtan hosted the Khorezm team at home. After the match, the home team’s head coach Eldor Moyliyev attended a press conference and shared his thoughts on the game.

The experienced specialist emphasized that his team started the match actively, as expected:

— We started the match with energy and even managed to open the score first. However, after that, we conceded two goals from counterattacks. In the second half, the initiative was mostly on our side, but unfortunately, we conceded a third goal as well. The opponent, Khorezm, defended deeply and with discipline. We couldn't create the expected dangerous moments. We will work on correcting these shortcomings. Our team is still forming, and it takes time for the players to understand each other. We will focus on fixing these issues in training.

Moyliyev also spoke about the players recently added to the team:

— We focused mainly on the attacking line and midfield. In the first round, our biggest issue was in the forward line. Although we controlled the ball well, we struggled to break through the opponent’s defense. That’s why we brought in young and creative players who can move forward. I believe they will definitely help in the upcoming matches.

The coach also explained the tactical approach used in the match:

— Our plan was to press the opponent high up the pitch and be aggressive in attack. We anticipated that Khorezm would put pressure on us, so we decided to try long passes. Unfortunately, we conceded goals on counterattacks. The first two goals came right after we executed corner kicks, but instead, the ball ended up in our net. That showed we were not ready for counterattacks.

Moyliyev did not hide that the team lacks experienced players:

— It’s true that we have few experienced players. It’s difficult to bring in such players between rounds. Besides, our financial resources are not enough to sign top-level players.

He also commented on transfers that didn’t materialize:

— Yes, there were transfers that didn’t happen. We negotiated with several foreign players, but in the end, the deals failed. For example, Nasaf had agreed to let us have Sardor Bahromov, but later his family members opposed the transfer. So, we couldn’t bring him to the team.

Although Eldor Moyliyev’s team has not yet found its rhythm, his words reflect belief in the future and a desire to improve. We believe that the efforts to adapt new players and build team cohesion will pay off.
