Two boxers die in Tokyo after bouts
Two Japanese boxers have died from head injuries sustained during a boxing night in Tokyo.

Hiromasa Urakawa, 28, was knocked out in the eighth round of his fight against Yoji Saito on 2 August and taken to hospital. He was diagnosed with a subdural haematoma (blood accumulation between the brain and the skull) and underwent surgery, but died on 9 August.

A day earlier, at the same event, Shigetoshi Kotari also died from a similar injury. Both athletes fought in the ring in Tokyo.

Following the tragedy, the Japan Boxing Commission announced that Asia and Pacific title fights will be reduced from 12 to 10 rounds. A meeting to discuss the incidents is planned for September.

This is the third boxing-related death this year. In February, Irishman John Cooney also died at the age of 28 from a brain haemorrhage after a fight.
