According to a report published by Israel Hayom, there could be a significant threat to Israeli international football. The issue of the country's exclusion from all international competitions is expected to be discussed and put to a vote at a meeting of the UEFA Executive Committee on Tuesday.
This initiative is being put forward by Qatar. According to reports, over the past week, Doha has been active in the diplomatic arena, seeking support from many countries. So far, the majority of the 20 voting members are in favor of removal, and only two or three countries have strongly opposed it.
Qatar's pressure has intensified after Israel's military attack in Doha. For this reason, Qatari officials are making every effort to remove Israel from UEFA. If the decision is made, Israeli football may face significant losses on the international stage.
Currently, only one club from Israel - Maccabi Tel Aviv - is participating in the Europa League group stage, one of Europe's prestigious tournaments. The remaining teams withdrew from the competition: Hapoel Bier-Sheva lost in the qualifying round, while Maccabi Haifa and Beitar Jerusalem failed in the Conference League qualifiers.
At the same time, if the decision of the UEFA Executive Committee is positive, Israeli clubs will be deprived of the opportunity to participate in international tournaments. This could have a serious impact not only on the country's football but also on the future of the players working there.
