In the summer, the President of the Football Federation of Kazakhstan, Marat Omarov, publicly announced the holding of a friendly match between the national teams of two neighboring countries - Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. But not long after, the situation took a different turn: now it was clear that the expected collision would not happen.
According to sources, the Uzbek side decided to cancel the meeting. The reason is cited as Omarov's public statement during the negotiations, even before the official agreement was signed. In Uzbekistan, this action was perceived as disrespect, and therefore the planned friendly match was canceled.
The Kazakhstan Football Federation has now begun searching for a new opponent for November. This is the last opportunity to organize a friendly match before the decisive match of the 2026 World Cup qualifying round against Belgium on November 15th.
It is not yet known with which team the match will be organized. However, experts believe it's crucial for the Kazakhstan national team to face a strong opponent, as the match against Belgium could determine their World Cup qualification.
