Three assistants of former Uzbekistan national team head coach Srečko Katanec are preparing to file a lawsuit against the Uzbekistan Football Association (UFA), reports Asia Sport.
According to the source, the Slovenian specialists plan to submit a complaint to FIFA’s Dispute Resolution Chamber, claiming around €350,000 in unpaid compensation.
It is noted that the coaches’ contracts were valid until the summer of 2026. However, after Fabio Cannavaro and his coaching staff were appointed, their work was terminated.
Sources close to the situation state that the UFA offered them positions within the youth teams’ system, but they declined the offer.
“These specialists had managed the national team for several years as part of the World Cup preparation project and had signed contracts specifically for that purpose. Therefore, they did not consider moving to the youth setup appropriate,” Asia Sport writes.
An official complaint to FIFA is currently being prepared. If the claim is upheld, the UFA will be required to pay the compensation amount stipulated in their contracts.
The coaches reportedly held several negotiations with the Uzbek side, but without success, leading them to escalate the case to the international football authority.
The football community is divided — some view the move as a defense of the coaches’ legal rights, while others see it as a result of reforms under UFA’s new management structure.
In any case, the situation’s outcome will become clear after FIFA’s decision — it will be resolved either through a financial settlement or through legal proceedings.
