In the 17th round of the Turkish Süper Lig, Istanbul Başakşehir secured an impressive 5-1 victory over Gaziantep at home, delivering a spectacular win for their fans. After the match, the home team's head coach, Nuri Shahin, shared his thoughts on the team's performance and the result.
Shahin first highlighted his pride in his players. According to him, the team had gone through a challenging period recently, putting in substantial effort during training sessions. He emphasized that the decisive scoreline should not create the impression that the match was easy:
“First and foremost, I am proud of my team. We went through tough days and worked really hard. Let the scoreline not mislead anyone — the match was not easy.”
The head coach particularly acknowledged the intense pressure from “Gaziantep” during the first half. He noted that the opposing team was very active, creating several dangerous opportunities. Nevertheless, the “Başakşehir” players managed to withstand the pressure, demonstrating discipline and collective play.
“Especially in the first half, ‘Gaziantep’ put significant pressure on us. The boys fought until the end and showed their determination. As a result, we achieved a well-deserved and beautiful victory. We have fulfilled our short-term goal, but we do not intend to stop here,” said Shahin. He further emphasized that the second half of the league is still ahead and the team aims to perform even better than in the first stage.
For reference, in this match, Uzbekistan national team players Abbosbek Fayzullayev and Eldor Shomurodov, who were part of the starting lineup, both scored goals and significantly contributed to the team's decisive victory.
This victory was not only important for Istanbul Başakşehir in terms of points in the league standings but also played a crucial role in boosting the team's confidence and morale.
