Following Manchester City's 1-3 away defeat to Budø-Glimt in the Champions League, Josep Guardiola spoke openly about the overall situation surrounding the team. The Spanish coach believes that lately, everything from minor details to major factors has been working against City.
Guardiola recalled the team's unsuccessful start at the beginning of the year. According to him, in the first game of the new year - against "Sunderland," the team missed a number of good opportunities, after which a wave of injuries began. At the same time, the fact that Mateus Nunes was not ready for the game due to illness was also mentioned as one of the factors that aggravated the situation.
"Maintaining stability is the hardest"
Pep emphasized that maintaining long-term stability at the highest level - in Champions League matches or against strong opponents like Manchester United - is very difficult. He noted that it is not easy to regain the spirit of winning 7-8 matches in a row for a month or two, as in previous seasons.
"At this level - in Champions League matches or against Manchester United - it's very difficult to show the same level of stability as when we win 7-8 games in a month or two," said the Citizens' manager.
Guardiola also touched upon the results of 2025, noting that the team feels that "everything is going wrong." According to him, there were "wonderful opportunities," but it's clear that even the smallest details weren't decided in "City's" favor - and he noted this as a fact.
"I have a feeling that the results in 2025 are not very good. We had a great opportunity, but it seems that everything is going wrong, all the small details are working against us. This is a fact," ESPN quoted the Citizens' coach as saying.
There is a plan to change the situation
At the same time, Pep is not giving up. He said that "we need to try to change the situation" and emphasized that the team is working precisely for this purpose. That is, the problem is recognized, and now a practical solution is being sought against it.
For context, City's defeat to Budø-Glimt was another heavy blow against the backdrop of recent declines. However, the "citizens" have both time and resources - the main thing is to restore internal stability and clear decisions on the field to get out of this stage.
