Gullit harshly criticized, losing the joy of modern football

Former Chelsea midfielder and one of the legends of Dutch football, Rud Gullit, expressed a rather harsh opinion about modern football. According to him, there is physical preparation, discipline, and a return to defense in today's game, but there are fewer and fewer creative players who can get fans to their feet and deceive opponents one-on-one. These remarks sparked extensive discussion in European media following his appearance on Dutch television.
This is Gullit's main grievance: in his opinion, the excitement in football has diminished. He even said that he is now watching some games "just because they are needed," because current football is no longer as exciting as it used to be. The Sun reports that after the Arsenal-Chelsea match, he described today's football as "a very bad look" and compared it to a strategic game.
The Dutch legend believes that many footballers aren't playing freely on the field right now, but seem to be fulfilling ready-made tasks. He considers this situation alarming. Because football is not just about running, pressing, and schematics - it should also give the spectator pleasure, unexpected movement, and individual skill. Otherwise, the game will be "correct," but lifeless.
Gullit objected to the excessive passing, especially in current matches, and the players' lack of risk in dangerous situations. He believes that simple ball spinning on the field has increased, but brilliantly deceiving the opponent, creating tension, and surprising the fan has decreased. This opinion has also spread widely on social networks: in various quotes, Gullit is cited as expressing dissatisfaction with the content "why everyone only passes?."
In short, Gullit's words are not just simple complaints - it's a painful diagnosis for modern football made by someone who has seen the big football era. According to him, football today can be organized and strong, but if it loses its enthusiasm, creativity, and courage, then something will definitely be missing. Therefore, his criticism raised one question for many: is football developing or is it gradually losing its most delicious aspects?
