The 2026 Paralympic Games in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo have officially concluded, bringing the curtain down on one of the biggest winter sports events for athletes with disabilities. More than 600 competitors from 55 countries took part in the Games, competing for 79 sets of medals across a packed program that featured para cross-country skiing, para biathlon, para ice hockey, alpine skiing, para snowboard and wheelchair curling.
China finished at the top of the overall medal table after a dominant campaign. Chinese athletes collected 15 gold, 13 silver and 16 bronze medals, ending the Games with a total of 44 medals. The United States secured second place with 13 gold, 5 silver and 6 bronze medals, while Russia placed third with 8 gold, 1 silver and 3 bronze medals.
Host nation Italy also enjoyed a strong performance in front of its home crowd. The Italians ended the Paralympics in fourth place overall with 7 gold, 7 silver and 2 bronze medals, for a total of 16. Austria rounded out the top five after winning 7 gold, 2 silver and 4 bronze medals, showing impressive consistency across several disciplines.
France took sixth place with an even spread of 4 gold, 4 silver and 4 bronze medals. Ukraine ranked seventh and stood out for its overall medal volume, earning 19 medals in total, including 3 gold, 8 silver and 8 bronze. Canada followed in eighth position with 3 gold, 4 silver and 8 bronze medals, while the Netherlands and Sweden completed the top ten with 7 medals each.
The final medal standings highlighted both the depth and competitiveness of the 2026 Winter Paralympics. China led not only in gold medals but also by a wide margin in total podium finishes, underlining its growing strength in winter para sports. At the same time, the performances of Italy, Ukraine and Canada showed that the Games were not defined by one nation alone, but by a broad international field capable of producing memorable results across multiple events.
