George Hagi has been officially announced as the new head coach of the Romania national football team. The 61-year-old experienced specialist has signed a long-term contract with the country's football federation, running until 2028.
This decision has generated significant interest within the football community, as a new era is expected to begin in Romanian football. The federation's leadership aims for Hagi to rebuild and elevate the national team to a new level.
It is recalled that former Romania head coach Mircea Lucescu passed away on April 7 at the age of 80. His departure is noted to have left a significant void in the country's football.
Hagi is considered one of the stars who left a significant mark on European football during his playing career. He gained high-level experience playing for prestigious clubs such as Steaua, Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Galatasaray.
As a coach, he previously managed the Romania national team in 2001. He also gained experience at club level with Steaua and Galatasaray, participating in various competitions.
