Bayern Munich sporting director Christoph Freund has denied reports that team captain Manuel Neuer’s current contract has been extended until 2027. Earlier, German media circulated information claiming the 40-year-old goalkeeper had reached an agreement with the club and would share his spot in the starting lineup with Jonas Urbig next season. Goal.com reports on the matter.

During a press conference, Freund expressed his surprise at these rumors. According to him, official negotiations between the club and the player have not yet taken place. Nevertheless, the sporting director emphasized that dialogues regarding Neuer's future are ongoing and noted the high importance of the goalkeeper to the team.

Neuer himself stated that he has not yet reached a final decision. The experienced goalkeeper, who returned to action following an injury, has been delivering reliable performances in Champions League and German Cup matches. At the same time, the Munich club is considering the possibility of the goalkeeper retiring and is scouting new candidates for backup, specifically monitoring Daniel Heuer Fernandes.
