The third generation of Apple Watch Ultra is expected to be released in September 2025 and will feature satellite communication and a new 5G modem, Pepelac.news reported, citing Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman.
Thanks to satellite connectivity, users will be able to send messages even when out of range of cellular networks and Wi-Fi. With the release of iOS 18, this functionality will extend beyond emergencies and allow regular text messaging as well.
This makes the Apple Watch Ultra especially valuable for adventure seekers and outdoor enthusiasts. Apple aims to strengthen its position in the market, competing with brands like Garmin that offer similar features.
Additionally, Gurman noted that Apple plans to move away from Intel modems and adopt MediaTek's 5G RedCap technology, a low-power version of 5G designed for wearable devices. Current Apple Watch models still use 4G LTE, while iPhones have already made the shift to 5G.
