Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has announced that the company is building a massive 5-gigawatt AI data center, reported TechCrunch.
The facility will be one of Meta’s largest infrastructure investments to support its growing ambitions in artificial intelligence, including the deployment of models like LLaMA and global AI services. According to Zuckerberg, the data center is expected to be fully operational by 2030.
At 5 gigawatts, the center’s power capacity is several times greater than most existing data centers. It is designed not only to meet Meta’s own AI needs but may also be offered as an infrastructure platform for other organizations in the future.
This initiative presents significant technological, engineering, and energy-related challenges and opportunities — and raises critical questions about sustainability and energy sourcing for such a vast facility. Read 'Zamin' on Telegram!
