Uzbekistan’s Antimonopoly Committee has ruled in favor of Uzum Market in a dispute over a YandexGo UB commercial, which was found to resemble Uzum Market’s branding and messaging.
According to the investigation, the Yandex Market ad featured a purple dress worn by the actress, early scene setups, and a grape symbol — all elements visually similar to previous Uzum Market videos. The line “Is this the market?” followed by “No, it’s a different market” was interpreted as an attempt to create brand confusion and imply Yandex Market’s superiority.
The Committee deemed this a case of unfair comparison under Article 21 of the Competition Law. However, since Uzum Market failed to present concrete financial loss, the case was considered economically low-impact, and no monetary penalty was applied.
Still, YandexGo UB was instructed to remove the ad from all media within one month and submit proof of compliance by August 14. The parties may appeal the decision through the Committee's Appellate Board or the courts.
