Important news for Google Chrome users

Google has decided to fundamentally change the update schedule for its popular Chrome browser. Currently, major browser updates are released every four weeks. However, starting from September 2026, beginning with Chrome version 158, this process will double in speed, and updates will be released every two weeks. Reports comss.ru.
Developers state that this change is linked to the rapid evolution of the web platform. Faster updates will allow users to receive new features, performance improvements, and security patches more quickly. Google experts believe that smaller, more frequent updates will enhance browser stability and simplify the bug-fixing process.
The new schedule applies to Stable and Beta channels for desktop systems, Android, and iOS. Meanwhile, the Extended Stable channel for enterprise users will remain unchanged and continue to operate on an eight-week cycle. This provides system administrators with sufficient time to manage updates.
So far, Microsoft has not announced plans for similar changes to its Chromium-based Edge browser. However, this development in the tech world is expected to further accelerate competition and the pace of innovation in the browser market.
