Google names London HQ 'Platform 37'

Google has given its new London headquarters a distinctive name: “Platform 37”. The label is a playful nod to the building’s close neighbour, King’s Cross railway station, one of the UK capital’s busiest transport hubs and a landmark for commuters and travellers. Reports Reuters.com.
The name also points to a famous moment in artificial intelligence: “Move 37”, the unexpected, game-changing play made by DeepMind’s AlphaGo during its widely watched match against Go world champion Lee Sae Dol. The move became a symbol of how AI systems can produce creative and surprising decisions that even top human experts do not anticipate.
By combining the rail-themed reference with a milestone in AI history, Google is tying its London base to both the local character of the King’s Cross area and the company’s broader ambitions in advanced computing. The branding highlights Google’s growing presence in London while celebrating the breakthrough that helped bring AI research into the mainstream.
