Starlink significantly increased internet speeds in the US

SpaceX's Starlink satellite internet has expanded its capabilities, reaching a level that competes with traditional wired internet providers. According to Speedtest data, the median download speed for users in the US reached 132 Mbps in the fourth quarter of 2025. For comparison, this figure was only 64 Mbps a year ago. This is reported by Ixbt.com .
Currently, nearly 45 percent of Starlink users have download speeds of 100 Mbps and upload speeds of 20 Mbps, which is considered "normal internet" by the US regulator. At the beginning of 2025, the share of subscribers achieving such results was only 17 percent. This growth is linked to SpaceX expanding its orbital satellite constellation to 10,000 units and over 120 successful launches using Falcon 9 rockets.
As a reminder, in 2023, the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) denied Starlink an $886 million subsidy. At the time, the regulator argued that the service speed did not meet requirements. However, current technical indicators suggest that this decision was premature.
SpaceX plans to further increase speeds by launching next-generation satellites using Starship rockets. The company's long-term goals include achieving gigabit speeds and providing direct-to-smartphone connectivity.
