Paris Prosecutor's Office launches investigation into Elon Musk and X

The Paris Prosecutor's Office has launched a preliminary investigation into entrepreneur Elon Musk and his company X. This was reported by Le Monde, citing its sources.

It is reported that this decision was made after Elon Musk failed to appear for a scheduled questioning on April 20. Investigation efforts are also underway regarding Linda Yaccarino, the former CEO of X.

Previously, the French Prosecutor's Office, in cooperation with Europol and the national Gendarmerie's cybercrime unit, conducted searches at X's offices in France. This process is said to be related to an investigation initiated in January 2025 following complaints about the social network's algorithms.

As part of the investigation, certain content on the X platform is also being examined. Specifically, complaints regarding Holocaust denial materials and AI-generated intimate images have triggered the probe. The activities of the Grok chatbot on the platform also remain under the scrutiny of law enforcement agencies.
