Vimpelcom launches 5G service in international roaming

The Russian operator Vimpelcom has announced the launch of its 5G network for international roaming. According to the company, the next-generation communication technology is currently available in over 30 countries worldwide, including popular tourist destinations such as Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Turkey, China, the UAE, and the USA. This is reported by Ixbt.com .
This coverage extends to nearly 80 percent of customers using roaming services. While 5G networks have been operating globally since 2019, the mass deployment of this technology within Russia is still in the preparation phase.
The Russian Ministry of Digital Development plans to fully launch commercial 5G networks in the country by 2026. Currently, operators are discussing the possibility of obtaining frequencies without auctions in exchange for infrastructure development. The plan aims to cover all Russian cities with a population of over a million with 5G by 2031.
