Oculus founders introduce new AI app called Sesame

On Thursday, the startup Sesame, founded by the creators of Oculus (which was sold to Meta), launched its new iOS app. Developed over more than a year, this project offers AI agents capable of natural interaction with users, unlike traditional chatbots like ChatGPT. The system's uniqueness lies in its ability to make the information retrieval and response process closer to human speech. This is reported by Techcrunch.com reports .
Sesame technology allows for multiple parallel searches to be conducted simultaneously. This enables the AI to incorporate new information into its speech or change its train of thought while speaking. The app features four different agents — Maya, Miles, Simone, and Charlie — each with its own voice, personality, and memory. During the earlier research phase, more than a million people used these agents within a few weeks.
The app includes a range of user-friendly features, such as search cards for visual data, a note-taking mode, and an "incognito" mode for private conversations. There is also a text mode for situations where speaking aloud is not possible. The company's investors include the famous Sequoia fund, and the startup recently raised $250 million in investment.
The plans of the Sesame team are not limited to just a mobile app. The company aims to release smart glasses in 2027. In the future, these agents are expected to not only answer questions but also perform specific actions on behalf of the user. Currently, the iOS app is available for free in 39 countries, though registration may require joining a waitlist. The app will be released for Android users at a later date.
