5G and architectural harmony: MTS turns communication towers into works of art

MTS is launching a new project to refresh the appearance of urban communication facilities. As part of the A-Fest festival, the company, in collaboration with the A-House architecture club, has announced a competition for architectural bureaus to develop new designs for base stations. The main goal of the project is to integrate technological equipment into the urban landscape harmoniously. This is reported by Ixbt.com reports .
MTS experts note that base stations have become an integral part of urban infrastructure today. They support daily life, transport systems, and digital services. However, these towers are often installed without regard for surrounding architectural features, which can negatively impact the visual environment.
The company's initiative aims to find solutions that combine functionality and 5G network deployment capabilities with aesthetic appeal. According to the competition rules, projects must meet technical requirements while serving as an "architectural statement" that fits the urban landscape.
The competition, titled "Changing the Ordinary," will take place from May 19 to June 14, 2026. Local and international architectural bureaus are invited to participate. A prize fund of 3 million rubles is set for the winners, with entries evaluated based on functionality, ergonomics, conceptual innovation, and economic efficiency.
As part of the A-Fest 2026 festival, MTS will also present an interactive multimedia installation. Through this exhibition, visitors can take a fresh look at standard telecom infrastructure and imagine what communication facilities will look like in the cities of the future.
