The well-known Saudi newspaper Al Harir published an article about the large-scale measures being taken in Uzbekistan to develop tourism. The article discusses plans to attract foreign tourists by expanding the country’s air fleet.
According to the newspaper, during a special meeting chaired by the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, important issues regarding the strengthening of the aviation fleet were discussed to increase the flow of tourists. As a result of negotiations with France, an agreement was reached to purchase 14 modern Airbus aircraft and lease 5 more.
Additionally, negotiations have begun with the aviation giant Boeing, with plans to purchase 12 new planes in the near future.
Following the meeting, ministries and agencies responsible for the tourism sector were instructed to present detailed calculations on how many flights could be operated on new routes and how many tourists could be attracted through the modernization and expansion of the aviation fleet.
The article also noted that earlier this year, Uzbekistan Airways CEO Shukhrat Khudoykulov announced plans to purchase 14 Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner long-haul aircraft worth $2 billion.
It is also emphasized that Uzbekistan's ambitions in aviation grew significantly back in 2022, when the country signed contracts to purchase 17 Airbus and ATR aircraft worth approximately 800 million euros. This marked a major step toward aligning the republic’s transport infrastructure with global standards.
Experts believe that the arrival of modern and comfortable aircraft in Uzbekistan will further promote tourism and significantly increase the number of foreign tourists. At the same time, these measures could bring substantial economic benefits to the country.
Uzbekistan’s ongoing efforts to expand its tourism sector and modernize its aviation fleet have attracted international attention. The Saudi press describes this as a strategic project of great importance for the country’s economy.
