Uzbekistan plans to launch ferries in the Caspian Sea
Uzbekistan plans to launch its own ferry routes in the Caspian Sea to accelerate cargo transportation, reported uz.kursiv.media.

Transport Minister Ilhom Mahkamov announced this in an interview with “Uzbekistan 24” TV channel. He said the project aims to improve logistics efficiency.

Mahkamov also noted that Turkish partners are expected to be involved in launching the ferry services. In addition, the construction of a railway from China to Uzbekistan will have a positive impact on Uzbek-Azerbaijani transit.

It is worth noting that in the summer of 2024, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev expressed support for maritime trade with Uzbekistan and proposed that President Shavkat Mirziyoyev join a Black Sea freight initiative.

Tashkent has previously declared its intentions to establish a national fleet in the Caspian Sea. Having vessels under the Uzbek flag is expected to increase cargo traffic through the Middle Corridor.
