An important step is being taken in Uzbekistan to protect consumer rights and ensure market safety. On August 21, the draft law “On Market Supervision” was submitted for public discussion, sparking heated debates among the general public.
The main goal of the draft is to guarantee the safety and quality of food and other types of products in the country, as well as to systematically regulate relations in the field of market supervision.
According to the new regulation, market supervision bodies will have the authority to check the full compliance of products with mandatory standards and norms. If, during inspections, goods that may pose a serious risk to health or fail to meet quality requirements are identified, measures will be taken to withdraw them from circulation. In addition, financial sanctions may be imposed on the manufacturer or seller.
It is important to note that control purchases will be carried out without illegal interference in the activities of individuals or legal entities, in the presence of two impartial witnesses, and with mandatory video recording. This process is aimed at ensuring transparency and preventing any artificial obstacles or conflicts of interest.
The draft law also emphasizes strengthening public oversight. In particular, a mechanism is planned to be introduced for the material encouragement of citizens who report unsafe or low-quality products. The Cabinet of Ministers is expected to approve this procedure within four months.
According to reports, the discussion of the draft law will continue until September 5. If adopted, it will officially come into force on July 1, 2026. Officials note that these measures will significantly increase market safety, limit the circulation of low-quality goods, and, most importantly, protect the interests of consumers.
