Lemmon Comet approaches Earth

On October 21, 2025, the comet C/2025 A6 (Lemmon) will approach Earth at the nearest distance. This was reported by the Solar Astronomy Laboratory of the Russian Academy of Sciences. According to the data, the distance between the comet and Earth is approximately 90 million kilometers.

Currently, the space object is approximately 200 million kilometers away from our planet and is approaching Earth at a speed of 5 million kilometers per day. It is noted that the comet is brightening much faster than previous estimates.

Astronomers say that by early October, its brightness could reach the size of 5 stars. A comet of this magnitude can be observed through ordinary binoculars or with the help of a snowy eye in the open night sky.

On October 3, the distance between the Earth and the comet will decrease to 150 million km, and on October 21, it will reach its nearest point. The comet's maximum luminosity is observed at the end of October and the beginning of November. If its brightness reaches 2-4 stellar degrees, it can be clearly seen in the sky even with the naked eye.
