On September 26, during the “World Atomic Week” forum held in Moscow, Azim Ahmadkhojayev stated in an interview with Spot magazine that the construction of a nuclear power plant will lead to a decrease in electricity prices in Uzbekistan.
“Prices will definitely decrease,” he said in response to a question. According to him, after the investment period, the cost of producing 1 kWh of energy will significantly decrease. As capacities increase, system efficiency improves, and based on economic laws, price reductions are a natural process.
Ahmadkhojayev assessed nuclear energy as one of the sectors “with a great future.” He emphasized that coal generation has lost its relevance, and natural gas should be used more efficiently in the production of high value-added products.
A day earlier, it was reported that “Uzatom” and Russia’s “Rosatom” corporation reached an agreement on the updated configuration of the NPP to be built in Uzbekistan. According to the new agreement, the project includes two large-capacity VVER-1000 (3+ generation) power units and two RITM-200N small reactors, each with a capacity of 55 MW.
