An important dialogue on labor migration issues was held not in the major political and economic environment of Riyadh, but in Tashkent. Within the framework of the implementation of Presidential Decree No. 367 of October 17, 2024, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan Olimjon Abdullayev held a detailed meeting with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Russia to Uzbekistan, Alexey Yerkhov.
In this dialogue, the greatest attention was paid to the rights, conditions, and new mechanisms that should be created for our compatriots engaged in labor activity in Russia. During the conversation, issues of resuming the previous "pilot project" between the two countries, simplifying and systematizing migration processes were discussed separately.
In particular, the proposal to transfer medical examinations, Russian language proficiency exams, and other necessary official procedures to the branches of Russian universities in Tashkent and Jizzakh was actively discussed. This, in turn, will allow our compatriots to fulfill all official requirements in Uzbekistan before traveling to Russia. This means time, money, and getting rid of excessive bureaucracy.
During the meeting, the issue of opening training centers on the Russian language, history, and legislation, and attracting instructors and experts from Russia to the process of training teachers and production specialists in the vocational education system was also raised. This proposal is expected to significantly facilitate the employment and integration of labor migrants in the coming years.
One of the most important points of the dialogue was the issue of preventing violations of the rights of citizens of Uzbekistan during migration raids in Russia. The Ambassador and the Uzbek side emphasized the need to ensure absolute transparency, fairness, and legal guarantees in this regard.
An agreement was also reached on the prompt resolution of all problems related to migration, the intensification of the activities of the bilateral working group, and the organization of regular meetings. This indicates the creation of an important guarantee for thousands of our compatriots - legal protection, favorable conditions, and a stable migration system.
Such dialogues between the two countries mark the beginning of a new stage in migration policy. In the coming years, work processes in Russia are expected to become more systematic, safe, and transparent for citizens of Uzbekistan.
