According to the presidential decree, a new special structure - the Ecopolicy - is being created within the National Committee for Ecology and Climate Change of Uzbekistan. This inspection system will have broad powers to identify, prevent, and establish strict procedures for environmental violations.
40 staff positions will be transferred from the prosecutor's office to the new structure - the State Environmental Control Inspectorate. These employees will be formed on the basis of subdivisions of environmental control in the Republic of Karakalpakstan, regions, and the city of Tashkent. In addition, prosecutor's offices specializing in environmental protection will also be integrated into the Ecopolis.
Employees of the eco-police are granted the right to use force, electroshock devices, and weapons with rubber bullets. Body cameras are installed on their special clothing. Until amendments are made to the legislation, the norms of the Law "On Internal Affairs Bodies" will apply to the use of force and special means.
The head of the eco-police will remain the chairman of the Ecology Committee. His deputy headed the operational headquarters of the Ecopolitsiya. The new system can be implemented based on ecological zones, regardless of administrative boundaries.
