On December 15, Saida Mirziyoyeva, Head of the Presidential Administration, held an important meeting with officials to address the protection of women’s and children’s rights, enhance efforts to combat violence against them, and discuss the causes of early pregnancies and preventive measures. The meeting featured an open and critical discussion of these pressing societal issues.

During her speech, Saida Mirziyoyeva highlighted that Uzbekistan was the first country in Central Asia to adopt a law against domestic violence. She also noted that penalties for sexual crimes against children have been significantly strengthened. However, she emphasized that these measures alone are not enough, stressing the need for more effective mechanisms in practice.

“We need to develop an efficient system that swiftly and reliably addresses cases of violence,” she said. According to her, in many situations, the true extent of the issue remains hidden, and much is concealed. Fear of revealing statistical data, public criticism, and concerns about reputation only deepen the problem further.
Saida Mirziyoyeva urged officials to abandon this approach, emphasizing that transparency and responsibility are essential for achieving positive outcomes. She added that accepting criticism and confronting problems without turning a blind eye are vital prerequisites for genuine reforms.

“The fight against any form of violence and the protection of women’s and children’s rights and interests must go beyond slogans and be evident in practice. The value of an individual’s life is a thousand times more important than any statistic,” Saida Mirziyoyeva wrote.
This statement once again underscored that human dignity, especially the interests of the most vulnerable groups—women and children—takes precedence in state policy. Experts believe that such a firm and transparent stance helps foster an uncompromising attitude toward violence in society.
