A new subsidy has been introduced to reduce meat prices

In order to ensure the population with basic food products and maintain price stability in the market, Uzbekistan is introducing new benefits for entrepreneurs engaged in meat import.
According to the Presidential decree adopted on April 7 of this year “On additional measures to support the provision of the population with basic types of food products”, temporary subsidies are provided by the state to entrepreneurs importing beef and mutton.
According to the decree, from April 1 to August 1, 50% of the costs of importing beef and mutton from foreign countries by air transport will be covered. However, the subsidy amount for each kilogram of meat shall not exceed 0.8 US dollars.
Also, from April 1 to December 31, a support system applies for breeding cattle imported by air transport from foreign countries. According to it, 10% of the cost is compensated by the state, but not more than 4 million soums per head of cattle.
These subsidies are financed by the Agency for Payments in the Agricultural Sector. According to experts, these measures may in the future help increase supply in the meat market and maintain price stability.
