Egypt wants to offer an alternative plan to the US to relocate the people of Gaza

According to Western and Arab media, Cairo plans to present its alternative plan for relocating the Gaza Strip population to the United States.

Egyptian President Donald Trump has expressed his firm opposition to the proposal to relocate Gaza residents outside the enclave and turn the territory into a tourist destination. Cairo has warned that such a move could undermine the 1979 peace treaty with Israel.

The refugee threat and Egypt's position

The Egyptian government is concerned about the possibility of Hamas members entering the country, as this could turn the Sinai Peninsula into a military base for new conflicts against Israel.

According to AP sources, Egypt has launched a diplomatic campaign to prevent the dispersal of Gaza residents. Cairo has warned the Trump administration that the initiative could undermine the Egypt-Israel peace agreement. Special letters have been sent to the Pentagon, the State Department, and Congress. A similar signal has also been sent to the Israeli government and Western countries such as Great Britain, France, and Germany.

Political concerns and international pressure in Egypt

According to Qatar’s The Middle East Eye, Trump’s proposal for Gaza has surprised Egyptian officials. Some officials have even begun to openly talk about the risk of such a plan causing political instability in the country and even a possible coup.

Cairo was offered to accept Gaza refugees as early as October 7, 2023, when sharp clashes between Israel and Hamas began. However, this issue has not been discussed openly.
